The Joy of Giving

IMG_1698What’s not to like? Here’s my buddy Tony enjoying his new gift: a “Reaching for the Moon” mug (not to mention the bow he’s sporting as a “fascinator” in his hair).

It’s ironic that I don’t have any family to buy/make for: but my “adopted” family (probably including you, dear reader) is just as much fun.

The funny thing is that I haven’t had a gift to unwrap for myself in years: and this is not only the first year I noticed that fact; it’s also the year that I’ve been blessed with several fun gifts.

My BFF Brenda Kato gave me a wonderfully designed shoulder bag that says: “We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars. — Oscar Wilde” (If he didn’t say this, he should have!)

Then my former “alley pal” from Wilmette, Linda Dormody, sent me two boxes of cookies: one, my grandmother’s recipe Linda's-Cookies (and probably her mom’s, too); and the rum balls, her mom’s recipe. As you can see in the photo, I breakfasted off of both of them, so a few are missing. (That rum is  s-t-r-o-n-g!!!)

The stocking sticker on the lid says “Merry Christmas from Santa”: it’s been a LOT of years since I’ve heard that!

I’ve baked pecan crescents, too; and there are other surprises in store for my short list of giftees (yes, Virginia, money IS an object). But once in a (great) while it’s kinda nice to be “gifted”!

Happy Holidays to you and yours! Let me know what YOU got, too!
